2017 ACFA Convention RECAP

Greetings Fellow ACFA Members & Friends!

What a fantastic time we had at the 17th annual ACFA Convention down at the Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach!  We had a lot of new faces this year in addition to long time attendees and to everyone who attended, it was great seeing you and to those that could not, we sure missed you and hope to see everyone at the Perdido again July 8th-11th ,2018!

Special thanks go out to our Associate members whose generous sponsorships help make conventions such as this possible and we were very blessed to have superb sponsorship again this year.  I truly believe that this year’s conference was one of the best to date with great fellowship and weather throughout.

It was our great honor to have several guest speakers from the Alabama Legislature attend this year and make very informative presentations during our meetings and events as well as graciously participate in roundtable discussions with our members.  We were also privileged to be joined by Reyn Norman General Counsel of the Alabama Department of Insurance, and new ACFA Counsel of Record Jason Bushby both of whom were kind enough to address us during our meetings and events on governmental happenings that have affected or may affect our industry.  It was also great having Bill Himpler with AFSA speak at our meeting on current happenings in Washington with the Trump Administration and the CFPB and to have Rick Zois with Transunion attend and give a very interesting presentation on fraud and identity theft risk management in the credit industry .  We cherish our friendships made with these guests as it is always wonderful making new friends and reconnecting with old friends and we certainly look forward to continuing our relationships with all in the future.

Also in convention news, we are proud to announce that Duane Davis was awarded the Don Gowen Consumer Lender of the Year award for his achievements and influence in the consumer finance industry in Alabama over the years.  We are also proud to say that the Association will be awarding four scholarships in 2017 to worthy students whose parents or grandparents have ties with the Association.  We are thankful that the Association was able to raise over $4000 in scholarship funds for next year thanks to the generosity of buyers of the hunting/fishing/Perdido stay packages which were auctioned off and for the proceeds generated from the 50/50 raffle.   Much appreciation goes out to those kind enough to donate these packages and to those participating in the raffle to help benefit our scholarship fund.

I also wish to express my sincere appreciation to the entire membership of the ACFA for giving me their support over the past five years of my Presidency. It has been both a wonderful experience and honor serving you as President. We all look forward to our new President Chris Mitchell leading our Association into the future and I encourage everyone to offer Chris their full support and participation during his tenure to improve our Association for the betterment of our membership and our industry.
